History

The Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp is a radial airplane engine of American origin, featuring 18 cylinders arranged in two rows and air-cooled technology. Its total displacement amounts to 2,800 cubic inches (46 liters).

Following its inception, the R-2800 engine played a prominent role in numerous significant American aircraft, both during and after World War II. Throughout the war, Pratt & Whitney remained committed to enhancing the engine’s performance and implemented novel concepts such as water injection to facilitate takeoff in cargo and passenger planes and provide emergency power during combat situations.
